- Donating blood is a safe process. Needles and bags used to collect blood are used only once and then discarded, making spread of infection to the donor not possible.
- Donating blood does not make a person low of blood.
- There is no pain while donating blood.
- A misconception is that a person faints or feel uncomfortable after donating blood.
- Do not consume alcohol 48 hours before donation.
- Have good meal atleast 3 hours before donation .
- Accept the snacks offered after donation.
- Do not smoke on the day before donation . Donor may smoke 3 hours after donation.
- The minimum frequency of blood donation is 3 months.
- The donor should not have fever on the time of donation.
- Donor should not be under any medication for Malaria, Jaundice, etc.
- Pregnant woman should not donate blood.
- The donor should not have had any immunization at least one month before.
- Minimum age of donation is 18 years and the donor should weigh more than 50kgs.
